Not remotely worth the price
OK, pretty cool if you have a ton of disposable income, a brand new $5,000 guitar you dont know how to play and all you want is help getting started on a tune if you are a beginner, beginner guitar player. It also lets you transpose quickly and see where you can actually play and sing in your vocal range which is my reason for 2 instead of 1 stars. The analytical tools, however, are semi accurate at best. As such I have no idea why it is actually called Riffstation. I have played with the riif builder which is a nice idea but not there.
The app simply cannot track tempo and unexpect chord changes and gives you absolutely no indication of the proper inversion or kneck placement of the actual chords. Passing tones and arppegios completely confuse it as well and give you incorrect chord identification just about everytime they occur. I would give this app higher marks if it would even go so far as to call out the key of a tune or cross reference one of the many lyrics databases or even a freaking tuner. But, as it is, I am giving it a generous 2 stars because I see how it would get you playing tunes alot faster. So, if you want to learn a bunch of tunes and play them for quarters on your out of tune guitar, this app would be nice. But, please, if thats what you want to do, The Pearl Street Mall and Santa Monica Prominade already have plenty of that already.
In closing I would like to request the authors keep working on this. Its a great idea. And, as critical as I am being, it is not much worse than the analytical tools in Pro Tools 10. Im pulling for you! If you can improve this and integrate some functionality, you could own the space and retire to a nice Caribbean Island of your own.
