Riffstation App Reviews
The interface is professional and I’ve just started using it, but so far I have no complaints. It’s even good for just learning chords if that’s all you feel like. Very happy with it so far. Totally worth it.
it is amazingly accurate with the cord analysis and it is fun to check out songs. The pitch and tempo functions are awesome. I have not figured out the Riffbuilder. Anyways two thumbs up for an amzing piece of software! Fun, Fun, Fun! Chris from Largo says:"nice job, thanks guys!"
OK, pretty cool if you have a ton of disposable income, a brand new $5,000 guitar you dont know how to play and all you want is help getting started on a tune if you are a beginner, beginner guitar player. It also lets you transpose quickly and see where you can actually play and sing in your vocal range which is my reason for 2 instead of 1 stars. The analytical tools, however, are semi accurate at best. As such I have no idea why it is actually called Riffstation. I have played with the riif builder which is a nice idea but not there. The app simply cannot track tempo and unexpect chord changes and gives you absolutely no indication of the proper inversion or kneck placement of the actual chords. Passing tones and arppegios completely confuse it as well and give you incorrect chord identification just about everytime they occur. I would give this app higher marks if it would even go so far as to call out the key of a tune or cross reference one of the many lyrics databases or even a freaking tuner. But, as it is, I am giving it a generous 2 stars because I see how it would get you playing tunes alot faster. So, if you want to learn a bunch of tunes and play them for quarters on your out of tune guitar, this app would be nice. But, please, if thats what you want to do, The Pearl Street Mall and Santa Monica Prominade already have plenty of that already. In closing I would like to request the authors keep working on this. Its a great idea. And, as critical as I am being, it is not much worse than the analytical tools in Pro Tools 10. Im pulling for you! If you can improve this and integrate some functionality, you could own the space and retire to a nice Caribbean Island of your own. ZB
The “Chord Viewer” functions properly on only the easiest of songs. When saving a “Session” it will save it in the key you were working in, and then when you “Load Session” it will load it in a different key. The “Chord Finder” has only the basic chords. The program also crashes from time to time. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because the main function I purchased it for “Jam Master”, actually does separate the lead guitar pretty well from the rest of the mix. This is one of the most expensive Apps I’ve purchased, and by far the worst.
Be sure that if you install this through the app store, you contact support to get your serial number. This allows you to install it on 2 more machines. Works as advertised and is great. I had issues at first and their support is top-notch. This app is worth every penny!
Its great
So far it is very good. Though I would like of you to make it be a full screan. Thanks
It crashes every time
I just downloaded the application and it crashed all the time. I havent been able to open a song ;( I just emailed support asking for help.
Does what it’s supposed to with the music. I would like to see a few things fixed or added. When you select a section to replay, you are shown the beat # (1 to 999, or whatever), and you can select 4 beats or 16 or 64… very handy, superimposed over the sound wave image. But when you click the wave image to select the section it immediately jumps to another location, so you need to look at the time counter by the play buttons so you can find your way back. I would prefer the option of showing beat # and/or time counter so I know where I am and it’s easier to choose the setion to loop. Maybe there’s an easy way but I haven’t found it. It would also be nice to punch in the numbers directly rather than trying to select a section you already know with the mouse, a very inexact exercise. The WORST thing is that it lets you “save” sessions but promptly forgets where the song location is, or finds it but won’t let you open it because it’s grayed out for some mysterious reason. Support has responded once but they seem to assume I’m doing something wrong. All that said, I put up with the inconveniences because it does what it does quite well otherwise. And you find shortcuts to work around the annoyances, mostly.
I used this application to figure out an old song that NOBODY had the tab/chords for. I like the toggle between chord/power chord fingering charts. A very cool application. I have not had any issues with bugs/crashes as I read on other reviews.
The first tune I loaded in was “The Fever,” Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, which I know pretty well. Some of correct chords were in there occasionally, but it was drastically incorrect, even changing keys (key of G, but this thing is sticking in Bb and D#m, which is another problem in itself (ever heard of the circle of fifths?) With the five star reviews - are these people just loading in E A B tunes or what? Will try to get a refund.
